What is Fruits-of-Labour?

Simply it's 'synergy' – that's when things work in concert to create an outcome that is of greater value than the total sum of its parts!

With many years' experience working in English vineyards our team brings with them not only the essential skills required but a first class work ethic that's second to none – as clients will testify!

My career in viticulture started in 1987 at Denbies Wine Estate. It was an exciting time, Denbies rapidly converting from an arable and livestock farm into what was to become the UK's largest vineyard. During my 8 years with Denbies I played a key role in the transition from the initial 40 acres to 250 acres. Having decided where my future lay, I enrolled at Plumpton College and studied for an HND in Wine studies, gaining a distinction and the top student award. From there I went on to study at Brighton University, where I was awarded an Honours Degree in Wine Science. I have gained a qualification in the WSET at Diploma level, am a member of the UKVA, a technical member of the Sustainability Group, as well as serving as a SEVA committee member.

In 2001 I set up my consultancy business providing vineyard management and consulting services - advising and working with vineyards in Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset. As a result of this, in 2006, I was offered, the post of Vineyard Manager at Nyetimber and, motivated by the prospect of developing my craft through working with this innovative and ambitious project, I accepted. Under my management, Nyetimber increased from 35 to over 400 acres and is now both the largest and the leading sparkling wine producer in the UK.

Inspired by the undoubtedly dynamic future of the UK wine industry I have 'returned to my roots' as an independent consultant offering expertise gained from 25 years in the industry to those starting a project from scratch, taking on an existing vineyard or advising for an established operation.

Before coming to the UK in 2006, Mihaela gained considerable experience working with vineyards in Spain and Portugal. After accepting the vineyard managers role at Squerryes Vineyard in Kent in 2007, Mihaela recognised that there was a shortage of experienced vineyard workers in the UK and from this 'Vineyard Works' was born.

"What makes us unique is that we're part of a very large family, which means that the team all know each other and subsequently have a camaraderie not found elsewhere. This really makes a difference as we are proud people who are passionate about our work. We are all working towards the same goal of completing tasks quickly and most importantly carrying them out to the highest of standards."
